Iran, UAE seeking expansion of ties: Deputy-FM

ABU DHABI, Dec. 31 (MNA) – During a Tuesday meeting between Iranian deputy FM and the UAE’s Minister of Culture in Abu Dhabi, the two sides stressed the significance of development of ties.

During the meeting, deputy FM for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian pointed to the important and strategic relations between Iran and the United Arab Emirates relations, stressing the two countries’ extensive trade exchange as well as the need and willingness on both sides to further develop cooperation.

He emphasized that the two countries share a similar viewpoint on fighting terrorism, adding that, “considering the current critical conditions in the region, consultations and negotiations are highly necessary and beneficial.”

Head of the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Social Development Nahyan Bin Mubarak, for his part, highlighted the long-lasting relations between Iran and UAE throughout history and stressed the need for more cooperation.  

Concerning terrorism, he asserted, “improving the regional situation requires sincere efforts made by all involved countries in order to tackle the current issues and uproot extremism of any form in the region.”

Bin Mubarak also stressed that UAE has always been seeking to have the most and best relations with Iran.

Amir-Abdollahian is also scheduled to meet some other UAE officials during the next few days.

Relations between Iran and the United Arab Emirates are deeply historic and dates back to the centuries prior to the establishment of modern-day Emirates. UAE maintains close economic ties with Iran, with some 8,000 Iranian traders and trading firms registered in the UAE, according to the local Iranian Business Council.
